Sales in Aspen 10% higher in 2025

Taxable sales in Aspen in 2025 totaled $1.44 billion - 10% higher than the $1.30 billion recorded in 2024.

Last year's sales were included in the city of Aspen's monthly report, representing December 2025 retail transactions and other types of sales.

Sales tax sectors that recorded big gains in 2025 included accommodations, construction, fashion clothing and restaurants-bars. Accommodations grew 10%, from $354.81 million in 2024 to $391.15 million in 2025; construction jumped 127%, from $74.46 million to $169.06 million; fashion clothing increased 11%, from $171.19 million to $189.49 million; and restaurants-bars rose 5%, from $209.24 million to $220.01 million.

Community sentiment mixed on Aspen Meadows housing project

The Aspen City Council did not make a decision Tuesday night on a controversial housing proposal at the Aspen Meadows campus that neighbors said would exacerbate existing traffic issues and that employees of the Meadows' institutions said would be life-changing.

The city council took an hour and a half of public comment during a meeting on Tuesday that didn't adjourn until about 10:15 p.m. And before that, it received about 300 pages worth of written comments from both supporters and opponents of the plan.

max for even the shortest outdoor venture. School was even canceled one day due to extreme cold, and that's rare in Aspen! At long last, the thaw came, pushing temperatures in town into the low 40s, delighting skiers and snowboarders with strong sunshine to boot.
