Every new year, we often see a January freeze and a January thaw - and we got both in large measure this year.

In January, the freeze was deep and long - nearly three weeks of single-digit and below-zero temperatures, along with arctic wind. That kept us on our frozen toes and bundled up to the
max for even the shortest outdoor venture. School was even canceled one day due to extreme cold, and that's rare in Aspen! At long last, the thaw came, pushing temperatures in town into the low 40s, delighting skiers and snowboarders with strong sunshine to boot.
